Q: What is Chiropractic?
A: Chiropractic is based on the natural law of homeostasis, which simply states that a living organism (you) has an innate organization/intelligence that causes it to always express its greatest potential for health and well-being. This organization can be witnessed in the proper functioning of every tissue, organ, and system of the body.
Q: How does Chiropractic work?
A: Chiropractic works by removing nerve interference caused by vertebral subluxations. When proper control of your nerve system is restored, body cells, tissues, and organs develop stronger and healthier. This leads to a body that gets sick less and performs at its maximum.
Q:What is a Vertebral Subluxation?
A: A vertebral subluxation is the misalignment of one or more spinal bones resulting in nerve interference, abnormal joint motion, muscle imbalance, spinal degeneration and reduced body coordination and function. Scientific research has confirmed that vertebral subluxations decrease the body's ability to develop and function at its full potential. Chiropractors correct vertebral subluxations through the use of Chiropractic Adjustments.
Q: What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
A: A Chiropractic Adjustment is a specific force applied to a vertebra by hand or instrument for the purpose of reducing and correcting vertebral subluxations. Adjustments help to normalize spinal function and improve nerve coordination, thus allowing the body to heal naturally.
Q: Who needs Chiropractic?
A: Chiropractic Care enhances the ability of the body to heal and function better under proper nerve supply. People of all ages should be checked by a Chiropractor to ensure that their spine is free of vertebral subluxations. Regular Chiropractic care is highly recommended for everyone interested in maximizing their full health potential.
Q: Can pregnant women be adjusted?
A: Chiropractic care is perfectly safe for all stages of pregnancy and is highly recommended to alleviate many of the common ailments women tend to experience throughout pregnancy. It also helps the mother to obtain optimal health while pregnant, passing that health onto the developing baby. Many women have found that it helps facilitate an easier birth. Dr. Splendore has a special 'pregnancy pillow' specifically designed to allow the patient to lay comfortably on the table for her adjustment.
Q: Does an adjustment hurt?
A: Not usually, especially if you are under consistent care. Most patients find the adjustment a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Q: Will my spinal adjustment be noisy?
A: Good question! The table that is used in the office is a Thompson Drop Table. It works with air pressure allowing for a less forceful adjustment. Usually, the table makes the most noise in the room! Occasionally, a vertebra will cavitate or 'pop' making the noise of knuckles cracking but this is more rare with my style of adjusting in my practice.
Q: Will I have to keep coming back?
A: Individuals under Chiropractic Care understand the need for regular spinal check-ups to maintain their optimal health. Of course, you are never under 'contract' and may come in as needed.
